What happens if, say, you were honored to visit the President of the United States, and you failed to wipe your shoes on the mat outside the White House door…and you’d stepped in some dog mess as you crossed the lawn. And what if when they gave you that nice glass of red wine, you slopped it on the First Lady’s dress, staining the dress and the perfectly white carpet at her feet. And what if when you sat down to dinner you pulled your napkin out and it caused the china plate to crash into your lap, spilling prime rib and green beans and salad and gravy onto the lap of your host, the Secretary of Defense?
Now, I would say that the President would be hard pressed to invite you back. But what if he did; and you did it again! Now that would be a bad day!
How could you possibly get back into his good graces?
What happens when an entire people group is going the wrong way, against the grain of God’s internal standard of right and wrong? How can such people get back into God’s good graces?
A lot of us are asking that question.
